Sports
Bloomington is a sports town. Sports enthusiasts flock to the Bloomington and Monroe County area to witness Indiana University athletics and other spectator sporting events. But they also come to participate in group sporting events. Aquatics, baseball, basketball, golf, soccer, track & field, and other popular team sporting events take place year-round on campus facilities and outdoor fields such as Karst Farm Park, Twin Lakes Sports Park and others.
The Bloomington Convention Center has been part of that, too, helping to host many team sporting events throughout its history by serving a wide variety of roles for all kinds of sporting events. The new expansion with 26,000 square feet of contiguous space and 30-foot-high ceilings enhance the Bloomington Convention Center’s ability to do that, particularly with more non-traditional sports such is weightlifting, cheer & dance, table tennis, fencing, and combat sporting events. The new space will be an ideal sporting event headquarters that includes loading docks, storage, and the ability to drive vehicles into the space for loading and unloading event needs.
